The Coalition of Adoptive Families (COFAF) was formed to strengthen family ties through increasing awareness around the unique experience of being an adoptive family.
COFAF achieves this goal through providing education and resources, along with the support of adoptive parents, primary caregivers, and adoptees.
Charting the Course
“Charting the Course” is a powerful therapeutic education group series for families experiencing moderate to severe behaviors with their teens and children.
“…We assumed it was our fault that things were so chaotic. Finally we had people who understood what we were going through, and shared techniques that worked…” – Rosemary H., adoptive parent.
The course is conducted for parents, teens, and children in three parallel group sessions:
- Teen Session: Teens have an opportunity to talk with other teens, to learn about trust and methods to manage their feelings and behaviors.
- Grade and Middle School: Children are often able to relieve their anger and fears and are helped to develop a sense of acceptance and belonging.
- Parents: Understand the causes and effects of their child’s history; learn about the unique struggles faced by their children; receive support and assistance from peers and staff.
